If you do need / want a pigment, ink printer, then the Epson P400 is the direct successor to your R1800. The Canon's ChromaLife 100+ inks test out as substantially more fade-resistant than the Epson's Claria HD inks-which are not bad. I suspect the Canon produces slightly higher quality prints overall, albeit with maybe less red gamut. But that doesn't hold true in most places.

In the U.S., the Canon is much cheaper ($119 net of rebate versus $300 for the Epson). If you don't need / want a pigment-ink printer, then the choice in that size is the Canon Pro-100 versus the Epson XP-15000.

On the other hand, dyes clog much less, and arguably produce better results than pigments on coated photo papers (glossy, luster, metallic, etc.). Dye inks have come a long way on both fronts, but they still lag. Neither is really a replacement for the R1800 because the R1800 is a pigment-ink printer and the 1500 / Artisan 1430 and XP-15000 are dye-ink printers.ĭo you need or prefer a pigment-ink printer? IMO the reasons to get one are (1) you want to print a lot on matte and 'art' papers, some of which do not work well with dye inks and/or (2) you want the greater fade resistance of pigment inks. The Epson 1500 (Artisan 1430 in the U.S.) has been discontinued. So anyone any experience with 1500W? as I said I am after quality the same or better.

The black in the middle is more than just a clogged head, magenta & cyan no print at all, yes they are new genuine cartridges, I have used many cleaning kits including injecting cleaner through the nozzles, judging by the black, every other line blank I would say no signal of any kind getting to all the nozzles, no idea whats up with yellow today, yesterday it was fine. I have still not replaced the R1800 but after 12 years it really needs to go, I think its done well but. Hi again, I know my thread is old but it seemed pointless to start a new one to ask the same question
