

There’s the old standby dragons, giants and golems that appear in almost every RPG monster book ever, but there are also plenty of new stuff in here too, especially fey. The monsters hail from a wide-variety of folklore and backgrounds making it easy to find one that will thematically fit into nearly any adventure. (These are less visible in the pdf, but are quite striking in the print version.) There are faint images of the monsters in the background of the pages which actually look really cool. The layout and text are clean and easy to read stat blocks are a near-perfect match to the Monster Manual format which is good. The artwork is plentiful and professionally done every monster is in full glorious/gruesome color. Other than the Pathfinder Core Rulebook, this it the largest book on my gaming shelf. The book is 432 pages and is close to 1.5″ thick.

Printed colors are bright and vibrant, although some of the darker pictures lose a bit of detail when compared with the pdf. This adds a bit to the book’s overall weight and thickness, but it also feels really durable. The pages are the same thick matte stock as Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat.
